Another Great Coffee Meet!

Another Great Coffee Meet!

Last night had us at the October Electric Vehicle Adopters of Alberta EVAAB Coffee Meet where we got to meet some old friends and some new.

I believe I have started a conversion of some of the folks from the aquaponic side to checking into electric vehicles and although we did do some talking on aquaponics before the EVAAB coffee meet, there was also a bunch of electric vehicle conversation talked about as well.

We had the opportunity to meet the Chen family at the meet.

They recently got both a Nissan Leaf and a Chevy Volt that they seem very excited to have. They brought the Volt to the coffee meet and allowed us to check it out!

I only managed a couple pictures of the Volt in the parking lot after the meet.
(I have to work on getting more table shots of the actual turn out.)

Again, the meet was full of good conversation and thoughts on moving forward in electric vehicle adoption.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out and took part in the night!
I cant wait to see you all again!

2017 National Drive Electric Week

2017 National Drive Electric Week

Calgary National Drive Electric Week was again a lot of fun and a lot of talking!

IKEA donated a parking lot area for the Electric Vehicle venue and as a result of National Drive Electric Week being Platinum Sponsored by Nissan (and coinciding with the 2018 Nissan Leaf announcement), requested that a Leaf be placed at the front door of the store. We had the honour of having our 2016 Leaf being the flagship for the day.

The venue was awesome!

Both Donna and I attempted to engage as many people as possible, giving them information about the Leaf, answering a myriad of questions about charging, distances etc., and directed them to the other electric vehicle owners and vehicles on display in the adjacent lot.

I managed to run off and take some fast shots of the event in the other lot, but neglected to get a picture of our own vehicle at the front door (check out the pictures here).

We had a good range of vehicles from an electric skateboard through to a folding e-bike, to a Smart ForTwo, Nissan Leafs and a variety of Teslas.  We had hopes of seeing the elusive 2017 Chevy Bolts, the 2017 BMW I3 and the Fisker that have been seen running around in Calgary over the summer and welcoming the owners into the community; alas, the didn’t show.  I am undaunted however and will find them somewhere to get them included and to check out their very cool vehicles!

I have no idea how many people we talked to during the event, but by the end of the day neither Donna nor I had a voice left. When it all wrapped up, we were exhausted but overjoyed to have talked to so many people and answer so many questions.

I can’t wait for next year to do it all over again!

Sunday Drive To The Chinook Arch Meadery

Sunday Drive To The Chinook Arch Meadery

I organized a Sunday Drive event for the EV community for Sunday September 11 to a very cool location just outside of Okotoks, the Chinook Arch Meadery.

Chinook Arch Meadery offers up amazing selections of honey products, select smoked meats, ice cream and award winning mead.  The owners and staff are awesome people, very friendly, helpful and informative.  They offer up tours of both the bees and honey production as well as the meadery, making this a venue for all ages.

The venue was a hit for everyone! Adults and kids alike enjoyed the indoor bee hive, the ice cream and the outdoor hay bale maze. The adults liked the mead samples, smoked meats and honey products. For many of the electric vehicles owners who attended, mead was a new experience and it seemed that everyone enjoyed it.

We had several people interested in electric vehicles come out to get information and check out the event with a couple even coming from as far away as Lethbridge to be involved.

Overall, this was a fantastic day, a great venue, awesome people and a trip worth doing over and over again!  It was great hanging out with other EV owners and going someplace cool.  Huge thank you to all who came out!

Check out the pictures in the gallery.

Come join in the fun on future Sunday Drives!  Check out the events calendar for what we have planned next!

EVAA Coffee Meet

EVAA Coffee Meet

We set up the first EVAA coffee Meet for August 8, and I can honestly tell you that it was fantastic.

I was not sure how it was all going to play out with only a couple folks seeming interested in the event, but Trevor Dewaard Marc Verones and Donna Hayes made it a huge success!

We had fantastic conversations on a range of topics from EV adoption to vehicles details to autonomous driving and pet peeves of some of the vehicle features. One of the big topics of conversation was the lack of information available locally on EV’s from dealerships and the amount of misinformation and misconceptions there is out there from other sources. I believe that these coffee meets could be an awesome means of delivering that information to the masses by people who know about and own EV’s.

There is something to be said for bringing people together face to face, away from the screens that we think we know people by. This event proved that in many ways. I got to know these people from a completely different perspective and we had very pointed conversations with honest and open dialogues that I dont think anyone was actually ready to walk away from when the night ended.

I would like to thank Trevor, Marc and Donna for being a part of the event, and look forward to the next one.

If you have an EV or are just interested in finding out information about EV’s, I welcome you in attending the EVAA Coffee Meets (Find more information in the Events).

I would also like to make the challenge to anyone out there with an EV outside of the Calgary area to set up a monthly coffee meet in your area for EV owners and for those interested in getting information. If you do set one up, please let me know and I will add it to the events Calendar and send you the graphic for the table card. I will also post up the pictures of the event that you take and the write up about it!

Lets make this happen everywhere in Alberta!
